Chinese steel export price declines in H1 while volumes surge

As per latest report by Chinese Iron and Steel Association, Chinese steel export in the first half of 2010 has witnessed the anomalous situation of larger volume and lower price.

As per report, although there is a big rise in export volume by 153.27%, the export price has oppositely declined by 27.35% correspondingly.

Mr Luo Bingsheng secretary general of CISA said that
The comparison between change of export volume and price is mainly due to the influence of the anti dumping and anti subsidy policy of importing nations which depresses the export of high value added steel products such as tubing steel and thus the export volume of high valued products is shrinking.

He added that
Meanwhile, international demand for low value added steel products such as normal hot rolled coil and normal bar steel is getting stronger and stronger without any hindrance by importing nations, so export volume of low valued steel products is rising.

He said
Although low value added steel products are welcomed by importing nations, the mass production of these high energy consuming and serious environment polluting does not conform to the energy conservation and emission reduction policy of China and China has begun to restrict the export of low value added products. One instance is the export rebate tax cancellation implemented from July 15. Steel products like hot rolled coil, structural steel, strip steel with width less than 600mm and etc were involved.
